Liam and Natalie met in San Francisco, where their first date began at a small bar in the Mission. After a drink and a walk for ice cream, they wandered into Dog Eared Books and lost track of time, talking for hours among the shelves about astronomy, philosophy, and science fiction.
Their first date was one week before the ChatGPT launch, and Liam's rowing soon carried their story across continents: from California to Colorado Springs, from Princeton to Sarasota, and onward to Varese, Belgrade, Lucerne, and at last to Paris, where he won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games. Looking back on this transformative time in each of their lives, both Natalie and Liam feel they would not have been able to achieve their individual successes without the support of the other.
Their first trip after the Games was to Japan over the Christmas holidays. After a Christmas Day gondola ride above Lake Ashi, with Mount Fuji rising in the distance, Liam asked Natalie to marry him. It was, without question, the happiest day of her life.
Today they live in Cow Hollow, San Francisco with their beloved cat, Daphne. Having both grown up in southeast Michigan, they like to believe they once played as toddlers at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Perhaps, in some small way, their paths crossed even then.
